dòigh beatha (pronounced doy veh-ha).
A Gaelic phrase meaning: “way of life.”

A Place Where Stories Stay
A favourite recipe shared by the baker. A letter discovered between the
pages of an old book. A seasonal ritual passed down by a grandmother.
A collection of reflections inspired by a thunderstorm.
These are the things that gather at The Reading Table.
While the audio stories live in The Listening Room, the doigh beatha
zine allows you to carry a small piece of the cottage home with you.

Why A Zine?
Long before algorithms decided what
people should read...
writers, artists, musicians and dreamers created their own small publications.
They folded sheets of paper at kitchen tables, shared stories with friends, and mailed little collections of thoughts, drawings, poems and reflections into the world.
These humble publications became known as zines. The word comes from "magazine," but zines have always been something different. Smaller. More personal. More independent.
Less polished and more human.
Today, while much of our reading happens through glowing screens, zines are quietly finding their way back into people's homes. They invite us to slow down, sit in a comfortable chair, and spend a little time with something tangible.
That spirit sits at the heart of dòigh beatha.

A Small Independent Press
Every issue of dòigh beatha is created right here in The Cottage through WSL Publishing, our small independent press.
There are no advertisers. No corporate publishing schedules. No content teams deciding what should be written next. Just stories, seasonal reflections, illustrations and ideas created slowly and intentionally, one issue at a time.
Each zine begins at the Reading Table before making its way into homes around the world through The Letterbox. Some readers choose to print them at home. Others collect professionally printed editions through The Print Circle.
Either way, every issue remains part of the same growing library. A collection of stories and seasonal companions designed to be returned to again and again.

More Booklet Than Magazine
The zines aren't filled with celebrity interviews, advertisements or endless updates designed to be forgotten next month. Instead, each issue is built around themes that don't expire. A storm. A garden. A loaf of bread. A walk through the forest. A quiet afternoon.
The stories, recipes, reflections and activities are designed to be enjoyed today, next month, or years from now.
Many readers keep their favourite issues on shelves, coffee tables and bedside stacks long after they've finished reading them.
"The zines are absolutely beautiful! I love listening to the weekly stories but really look forward to printing and folding my zine each month. They look so lovely on my coffee table"
— Emily, QLD
